  • Bangladeshi metallers Burial Dust released debut EP “Oshubho Ahobaan”

Mar 15 • All Updates, International News, News, Releases • 4500 Views

Bangladeshi black metal scene is rising at full tilt with the addition of newer and newer diabolic hordes. Burial Dust proclaimed their existence during the culmination of the year 2013. The dreadful troop of Bengal preaches the unholy inscription to extinguish the false religious faiths of the society and sermonizes the occultism of death, darkness and superstition with their diabolical melody and chaos.

The horde unleashed the debut EP, “Oshubho Ahobaan” (“Ominous Call” in English) on February 05, 2016 in Pro CD format. The EP consists of five tenebrous anthems. Subject of the anthems rotates from manifesting burial dustsheer blasphemy to focusing on the ambience of death, from expounding occult to recalling the Egyptian deity Amun. Musically, they have added an eastern vibe with the influences from Early Mayhem, Morbid, Beherit, Von, Orthodox-styled black metal acts and the likes; the aftermath is an unilluminated sonic expedition of 27 minutes.

We caught up with Turaghh, who churns out infernal tunes with his guitar for Burial Dust. The band is pretty glad with the reception for their debut. “There are people ordering EPs from different countries like Germany, Singapore, USA, India and so on. Satisfactory reviews are coming from zines from different countries. We THANK all our supporters and well-wishers.”

The band has created their own logo, own artwork and all the inlay designs for the EP as well as released it independently but are open to offers from record labels willing to sign them up for upcoming releases.

When asked whether they’re not afraid of playing a genre which is explicitly blasphemous in its lyrical themes and music altogether in a country like Bangladesh where radicals have been known to silence the insurgents (much alike Pakistan and India), the band remarked, “The perceptional and cultural stand of mass people is confined by religious set outs. Everyone wants to hide behind a shield, feel safe and feel special to the core. Only things religion could ever offer are ‘potential believers’ having preoccupied brains lacking rational judgment of moral good or moral wrong; and a ‘better life’ in the next for those ‘true believers’. These ‘true believers’ pollute their own existence by their malicious acts and then establish a ‘celestial body’ on their side. We abdicate this vicious game. Meanwhile we found Black Metal to be the only proper way to express our hatred toward this drama. In the social context of Bangladesh (which is similar to India and Pakistan) there are many people living uneducated, in a devastating environment of malnutrition and under poverty line; for thousands of years these poor people have been praying to their god with fear in eyes and a little hope that the next life will be a safer one where dignity is unconditional. You try to make a single attempt to erase that hope even a bit, they shall perish you. You cannot break a dream that has been dreamt for millenniums. Thus the concept of Black Metal is still a social threat as it renounces all the fake pillars of faith, discards the existence of god and doesn’t support a dream which is in fact a byproduct of the evolution and failure of mankind though the passage of time. But you know revolution happens where revolution is needed. Hence we Burial Dust announce our firm existence as a part of this revolution of Black Metal.”

Looks like the band is here to stay.

Although there are no plans to tour the subcontinent in near future, the band is more than willing to play in Kolkata and Bangalore among other venues in India if given an opportunity. Gig organizers and promoters, you’re listening, right?

  • METAL ASSAULT cancelled midway- report of ‘LOUD MUSIC’ by a neighborhood Lawyer

    Mar 8 • All Updates, Events • 2158 Views

Reported by a neighborhood lawyer of loud music, METAL ASSAULT was stopped midway by police causing heavy monetary damage and harassment to the organizer in Bangalore. On 6th of March the event was scheduled to take place at a venue called PEBBLES, which was supposed to stage some of the best metal acts of the country. Sadly for all the 220 unfortunate fans the show had to be stopped midway through because of a complaint by a neighborhood lawyer. Kerala based band CHAOS did a great opening set followed by THE DOWN TRODDENCE who upped the scale of the show further, but before INNER SANCTUM could take the stage for their performance, a cop turned up at the venue demanding the show to be stopped. The neighborhood lawyer who apparently was dealing with the CHIEF JUSTICE as his guest, asked the police to stop the show immediately as he could not continue his business with the CHIEF JUSTICE because of the loud music. The lawyer allegedly threatened to take the matter to the higher authority in case of no action taken by the police.

Organizer Salman went to the police station along with the manager of Pebbles, Mr. Mathew. After meeting the lawyer at the police station he apologized to him and assured him of keeping the noise level in check, and requested him not to object any further so that the show can commence. Since the show had several fans from all over country and some reputed bands listed, he hoped for no further objection and the matter to be solved there. But to his great dismay the Inspector of High Grounds Police Station filed a case against him for creating a ‘public nuisance’ and warned him against continuing with the show.

The management of the venue didn’t allow him to continue citing the safety of their place. According to Salman the owner of Pebbles Mr. Harris was in Goa and didn’t respond to numerous calls from him, when he tried to reach him for some help while he and the manager were trying their best to resume the show.metal assualt

Since the venue is surrounded by different marriage halls, loud music is a common thing and as Pebbles has a license to hold live music it is confusing for the organizer to understand why his show was singled out. With all that happening the venue authority told him that the noise level got out of control as he didn’t use their own PA, which according to Salman was not sufficient for a live rock or metal concert. Whereas previously other shows were conducted by different organizers using their own PA systems. He even informed the owner of the venue Mr. Harris that the show will go on throughout the day as checking the PA system and instruments are a common thing in music shows, which Mr. Harris didn’t object.

Due to heavy monetary losses Salman was unable to refund the ticket prices of the crowd but assures the fans of conducting a similar show which will compensate them by giving a free entry and hopes for no similar ill-fated occurrence happening again.

When you think of Nasik, metal is hardly the first thing that comes to one’s mind but over the years we have seen loads of awesome bands coming out of this awesome place, Juggernaut’s is among the few kickass acts from Nasik and they have just released their new single ‘Why so serious‘ recorded at Refractor Studios Adhiraj Singh. We caught up with the band regarding this track and asked them to share the story behind it. Here’s what the band had to say:

    Juggernaut Metalbase

‘This track is a simple demonstration of the versatility of the band with the lyrical theme not bearing a reference to the Joker, but a shout out to people to not get depressed or serious in life about let downs or failures in life. To rise above all the pain, suffering and break free of shackles binding them.’

The track was originally recorded at the studio in 2013 but after that the band at that time with Sagar Dani and Varun Gopalkrishnan went on hiatus for more than two years , After Lokesh joined in for vocals towards the end of 2015 vocals were recorded at Apostrophe Studios (Jagdish Bhandge) and sent to Adhiraj for the final mix.Which is finally released on 29th Feb 2016.

  • New album update from Winter Gate

    Jan 25 • All Updates, Interviews • 4669 Views

Sometime in 2014 this band from Jaipur caught everyone’s attention after Transcending Obscurity signed them up and pressed about 100 copies of their debut EP- Dis-Illumination, which soon sold out. In a country where not many play their “death metal” right, Winter Gate, a band from a place where you’d least expect to find a death metal band, play some harrowing extreme music blended with clean melodies and progressions. Finally after about FOUR years, the guys have some new music churning in the studio.

Yes, we are in studios with the album finished halfway through. Hell lot of experimentation happened in the time, and [when asked about the reason for a long wait] we just wanted to be very much sure about where to take the sound especially when playing around with long song writings and mixing genres.

Though Keshav Dhar produced their previous release, the band confirmed that they will be taking matters into their own hands this time around. It will be interesting to see whether these guys are equally good behind the console.

The band has had some line-up changes but they’re all pretty sure we’ll have some more melancholy our way. “The new songs are crafted keeping a balance between quickly moving parts, which will definitely showcase the new chemistry also which we can’t wait to share with everyone.

Although the EP was one of the best Indian releases of that year, the only shortcoming was drums played by silicon chips. Fortunately, Winter Gate found a manual replacement for the robot. “..that was something we did back in time the best we could, with the best we had. But this time we took time to make sure instruments sound as they should. Behind the Drum kit is Sudeep Saxena- he has been an integral part of the band since about 4 years; for all the hard work gone in making this record, it would have been a big give away if we didn’t record the album with live drums. He has showcased a brilliant mixture of dexterity and speed that will keep the adrenaline high through out the album.” Yaay!

The songs on the next release will be longer than those on the EP but expect no similarities between the two releases as the band has experimented a lot. They’ve experimented so much that the folks say they’ll be taking a break from long tracks after this release[haha].

The new record is called Pathway Through Redemption, a concept album with 6 long songs dividing the whole story in 6 parts. This is an intense short dark love story about an insomniac, down trodden, will ripped farmer’s quest to his redemption, which he must find through his dreams. The songs are named like one could relate it with his/her life. We will share the track list in a month or two, followed by a single, artwork and the album.” They also confirmed that Kunal from TO has the release and distribution duties.

DisIllumination was more of a DIY album with the artwork and inlay work taken care of by the band’s closest friends Anudeep Mathur, Hitesh Adawni and Rishabh Goswami. With regards the artwork for the next release: “Mr. Turkka Rantenan (France/Finland) is doing the artwork for Pathway through Redemption, who also did the new logo for us, which was seen on the Manotaur T shirts, released later last year.” In case you are wondering where to buy the tees from, they are sold out, my friend.

The band is currently in talks with a couple of promoters for gigs in support of Pathway Through Redemption and they will be more than glad to play in cities they’ve never had the opportunity to visit. So If you want them in your local pub, NOW IS THE TIME and “If everything falls in its place, we[the band] will start sharing content in a month or two.
