Pink Floyd To Release A New Album?

Jul 5 • All Updates, International News, Releases • 4157 Views

It has long been believed that Pink Floyd broke up for good following the tour in support of 1994′s ‘The Division Bell.’ However, earlier today it was declared that they are working on a new album, with a release date scheduled for the fall.

Although there is no official announcement, the news comes via a seemingly reliable source. Polly Samson, who is David Gilmour‘s wife and who contributed lyrics to ‘The Division Bell,’ tweeted the following this morning (July 5). “Btw Pink Floyd album out in October is called ‘The Endless River.’ Based on 1994 sessions is Rick Wright‘s swansong and very beautiful.” Wright died in 2008 at the age of 65 after a bout with cancer.(Note: Samson’s Twitter account is unverified.)

In May, Samson put a picture of Gilmour conducting a trio of vocalists — including longtime Floyd backup singer Durga McBroom-Hudson — in the studio on her Instagram account. McBroom-Hudson has now re-posted that picture to her Facebook account, and backed up Samson’s statement that a new Floyd album is on its way.

At the time, it was assumed the picture came from sessions for Gilmour’s upcoming solo album, which also reportedly features contributions from David Crosby and Graham Nash. It is unknown whether or not this is a new project, or if Gilmour has now decided to release the work under the Pink Floyd name. His last album was 2006′s ‘On An Island.’

What is Bangalore Open Air 2014?

Bangalore Open Air (BOA) is a metal festival that takes place every year in Bangalore and is arguably one of Asia’s biggest metal festivals. Since its inception in 2012, the festival has thrilled Indian headbangers by bringing down some of the biggest metal acts on the planet like the legendary Kreator, Iced Earth, Ihsahn, Dark Tranquillity, Animals as Leaders, Suidakra and Leprous.

The festival has also featured the cream of the crop of the local metal scene like Demonic Resurrection, Dying Embrace, Kryptos, Bevar Sea and many more as well as hosting the finals of the Wacken Metal Battle – India leg. The festival aims at bringing quality international and local metal acts to India and to show the world that India is a rising metal nation with audiences as rabid as anywhere else in the world.

    About Cadever Mutilator :

The band is founded in 2003 by Paride Mercurio (vocals) and evolves, with the entry of Rosario Piazza (guitar) and Marcello Triolo (bass), as a project inspired by the American brutal death metal style. In 2006 the band starts recording their first album near the “21nesimo livello” and the “Raven Studios” in Palermo. The work is published in 2007 with the title of “Carnasyum”. In the same year Tony Rettino (guitar) and Giorgio Piparo (drums) complete the line-up and the band starts working on the next project “Nechronicles” (originally designed as a full-length album). In 2008 the promo containing the songs Putrid Meat Walking and Rotten Flesh Puppet comes out.

In 2009, Rosario Piazza leaves the band. His replacement Daniel Gruppuso completes the recording of Nechronicles.

In 2010 the band signs for “TheSpew Records” and releases the EP “Nechronicles”. During this period Giovanni Sciortino replaces Daniel Gruppuso on guitar.

In 2011 the band publish the first official video, containing a single (Mouth Crasher) which will be part of the new album: “M.D.K.”.

In 2012 Giorgio Piparo leaves the band and is replaced by Lorenzo Reina, who actively participates in developing the songs on the new album. “M.D.K.” (recorded at Pietro Ventimiglia Studios and mastered at Hertz Studio) is finished in the summer of 2012 and in 2013 the band signs for Inherited Suffering Records. During this period Tony Rettino becomes a Blakhart and D’Orazio endorser and in late 2013 Lorenzo Reina becomes a Tamburo endorser.

In 2014 Salvatore Li Causi replaces Giovanni Sciortino on guitar and the band publish the new official video “Swallowed By Morgellons”, taken from Murder Death Kill.

Thus far, Cadaver Mutilator played along with Sinister, Dismember, Defeated Sanity, Avulsed, Emeth, Horrid, Natron, Nefas, Corpse Fucking Art, Cripple Bastards, Goretrade, Cremated Lives, Amputated, Destruction, Suffocation and many others.

  • Powerlord – The Awakening (Reissue)

Jul 4 • News, Reviews, The Slumbering Ent • 2974 Views

Jayaprakash Satyamurthy reviews the remastered reissue of Powerlord‘s only album which was first released in 1986 titled The Awakening. The record is now reissued on Shadow Kingdom Records.

    4531

Metal is an elephant: it never forgets. Put down something on record, whether it’s in a studio or your rehearsal room, on tape or in some exalted digital format, let at least one person outside the band hear it, play at least one gig, even if it’s in someone’s living room while callow 13-year olds puke out their first shots of neat whisky and pass out on the carpet, and eventually some record company somewhere will want to issue or re-issue your recorded oeuvre.

I don’t mean to imply that Powerlord’s sole album is simply an 80s curiosity that should have stayed in the vaults. Still, it would be going too far that this is a hidden gem finally buffed up and placed in the shop window for the adoring masses to squabble over. It’s a run of the mill album of its time, somewhere between US power metal and thrash. Chuggy riffs abound, the solos are lengthy and showy and the vocals veer between something like an early Rivera and a proto-thrash combination of yells and roars. There are attempts at catchy vocal patterns – bands cared a lot more about that sort of thing in the 80s – and of course a healthy smattering of gang shouts. The singer is pretty good, going from a throaty roar to a high scream in the course of the same song, the lead guitarists have decent chops even if somewhat limited imaginations – although certain solos stand out – and the rhythm section is tight.

Still, the songs tend to whizz by in a sort of pleasant flurry of Generic Metal Sound without exercising any particular blandishments on this listener’s pleasure centres. One exception would be the more purposefully paced, ominous ‘Silent Terror’ where menacing vocals and relentless riffing interweave with some of the most effective, evocative lead work on the album. I’d place this song alongside anything Helstar or Riot were doing in their early days. And certainly, songs like ‘Malice’ and the piledriving ‘The Invasion of the Lords’ are perfectly acceptable thrashers, great mosh fodder and even contain a few passages that you will want to return to again for the sheer raw energy they display. Nor is this a crude or stumblefooted album; they may never have hit the big time, but Powerlord had ample talent to hold them in good stead when it came to dealing out tight, aggressive metal.

But there lies the rub – most of these songs play the aggression card, living out the band’s title but offering little contrast or mood. There are bands that can convey all the light and shade you need in just such a format, but as ‘Silent Terror’ and even ‘Merciless Terror’ show, Powerlord were more effective in the USPM mould than when they were trying to completely thrash it up. This uncertainty over the ideal idiom to play to their strengths may be one reason why this album gives the impression of a band that doesn’t really establish its own voice. Future albums might have seen Powerlord consolidating their strengths and carving out a clear identity. As it stands, we shall never know. In the meantime, the elephant has spoken, and we must listen.

RATING : 2.5 / 5 (This metal firmament is infested with screeds no better nor worse than this one. )

I’ll try and bring as much of the new music to your attention as i possibly can. Then again, i do let them pass through my personal filter and probably for the very same reason, some very obvious ones might have been intentionally left out. Hope you can understand. 😉

    1. Origin

Origin’s brand new album Omnipresent has been officially unveiled for your ears! The entire album has been up for streaming on Soundcloud. But its also been pretty dumb of the record label (Agonia Records) to not have inserted time calibrations of song ends and starts. So you’d have to trust your own sense of alertness for the same. Here’s the tracklist so that you have some idea of the track you are listening to.

    1. All Things Dead
    2. THRALL:FULCRUM:APEX
    3. Permanence
    4. Manifest Desolate
    5. Absurdity of What I Am
    6. Source of Icon O
    7. Continuum
    8. Unattainable Zero
    9. Redistribution of Filth
    10. Obsolescence
    11. Malthusian Collapse
    12. The Indiscriminate
    13. Kill Yourself (S.O.D. cover song)

    2. Mutilation Rites

One dimensional and dirty, something you’d always wish off some bands. Sometimes staying true to themselves is all you want from them. You’ d not want them to go out of their way for the sake of experimentation and end up sounding all the more contrived for it.  Mutilation rites sound here like blackened thrash than anything else with slightly melodic elements peppered throughout. Gravitational Collapse comes off their brand new album Harbinger, soon to be released via Prosthetic Records.

    3. Inanimate Existence

This tech death band’s been making quite the news around blog circles. Rightly so, if you’d ask me. Their brand of tech death is akin to the Canadian band Beyond Creation or Psycroptic and several of its new cohorts in Rivers of Nihil and Archspire. Its even got that occasional Mithras like leads (abused by Fallujah) in few of their tracks. They have just released a brand new video for one of their tracks called The Rune of Destruction. Although you’d be quick to stamp a lackluster quality on the video, you cannot possibly say the same about the song. Surreal leads, leg hacking riffs, female cleans and an overall vibe that befits a more classical music output, abounds.

A Never Ending Cycle of Atonement is to be released through Unique Leader Records this year.

Here’s a list of some spanking new tracks from  bands you oughta know! Especially the ones we at The Slumbering Ent think that you should listen to regardless of which metal spectrum you hail from.

    1. Darkest Hour

If anybody rode that metalcore wave during the first half of the 2000s then you’d remember Darkest hour. Mixing that ever so common Gothenburg melodic death with a very downcast brand of metalcore. If you happen to have heard nothing about the band at all, then i’d recommend giving the albums Undoing Ruin and Deliver Us a spin. Now to case in point. The band has just released their first single off their brand new self-titled(and 8th in line) to be released via Sumerian Records, and the track’s called Wasteland. The song does seem lacking their usual despondent edge, yet it still packs quite a punch.

    2. Martyrdod

There is something feelgood about the Swedish hardcore punk scene compared to which the American one looks rather superfluous and filler driven. Here the bands are obviously fewer in number but much better in terms of quality. Martyrdod’s brand of crusty hardcore has always been one of its more successful exponents. Here’s the brand new single from what is their 5th LP titled Elddopsoon to be released on Southern Lord Recordings. It just jumps and swerves with such upbeat melodic aplomb!

    3. Pallbearer

From their critically acclaimed Sabbathian doom debut  Sorrow and Extinction, this seems to be a shift in sound for the more epic. The emotional hooks at every corner shall leave you completely entranced. Here is ‘The Ghost I Used to Be’ from their 2nd LP Foundations of Burden, soon to be released on Profound Lore Records.

    4.Earth

I am guilty of looking up only a few songs off their past work. This brand new track titled From the Zodiacal Light from what appears to be their 8th full-length Primitive and Deadly, makes my guilt worse. Its popping a pill and laying back without actually doing it.
