Primitiv, have released their second single, ‘Lords of Primitiv’, a year after their first single titled ‘Taurus’. Primitiv, consisting of members from bands like Albatross and Hellwind, is an old-school metal band, known for their brutality and no-nonsense attitude along with their engaging lyrics.

Lords of Primitiv is the first song ever written by the band. Its composition is done by guitarist, Rajarshi while Riju Dasgupta is the lyricist. The song was recorded at Mindmap Studios, Gorai, mixed by Ashwin Shriyan and mastered by Daniel Kenneth Rego.

The first thing I noticed about the song was that it gives an immediate old-school metal feel. The riff that guides the listener into the intro of the song is a rhythmic, slow and intense breakdown which sets off an impression of what it is to follow. It is played thrice before the song floats on to the guitarist’s melodic bridge which establishes the vocalists’ entry to tell the story. The vocals in the song are harsh and brutal and unforgiving, resembling old-school death metal and even pushing the boundaries to conceivably black metal. The riffs continue to be juicy as they reverb throughout the verse.The sound of the whole band during the chorus undoubtedly sets the premise of the song. It is appealing as well as catchy, and it’s inadvertent that your head and spine will start moving as soon as the vocalists voice syncs in with the guitars and drums, ensuring some wicked headbanging. The hero of the song is definitely Nitin Rajan’s vocals, completing the songs constraint of generating an evil tone.

The lyrics talk about a person’s entry into a forbidden cave without paying attention to the warning on the wall, where he discovers a presence of the Evil Gods, ‘Lords of Primitiv’ who have been imprisoned there since ages. The person releases them by uttering enchantments in an ancient tongue and forms a pact with the Gods to rule the earth together. But they turn on him as soon as they are released, destroying him and the earth to bring about an apocalypse. The lyrics compliment the compositions created by the band perfectly as it all blends together to give the listener an innate feeling of malevolence and destruction, which I think is the vital motive of the band.
The song concludes with the ending chorus and leaves itself echoing in the ears of the listener.

In my humble opinion, this song is massive and definitely one of the bests I’ve heard this year from a national band. The band has done a great job and its shows tremendously on the output. I would recommend it to every metalhead and challenge you to see if you can stop yourself from playing the Play Again button.
