    Mastodon

Mastodon will be releasing their new album ‘Once More Round The Sun’ . The highly anticipated album from Mastodon is due release this June. Mastodon’s latest single ‘High Road‘ from their upcoming album was sent to the radio stations by the label.

    Here is the song:

Mastodon drummer Brann Dailor said in one of his interviews: “I’m really looking forward to it. I love the new songs, love the new material, I’m really excited to play it live and its always fun to make something from start to finish with your friends and put everything you have into it and then put it out there and see what comes back from it. They come from the ground up to you playing it and the audience singing it along. So it’s super rewarding in that way and I’m excited to go do it again.”

UPDATE: AC/DC CONFIRM TO MAKE MUSIC!

AC/DC have confirmed that the band will continue to make music but their founding member Malcolm Young will be taking a break from the band after 40 years of AC/DC. Here’s the official statement from the band.

“After forty years of life dedicated to AC/DC, guitarist and founding member Malcolm Young is taking a break from the band due to ill health. Malcolm would like to thank the group’s diehard legions of fans worldwide for their never-ending love and support.

In light of this news, AC/DC asks that Malcolm and his family’s privacy be respected during this time. The band will continue to make music.”

It has come as a shocker to the music fraternity that the legendary Australian band – AC/DC are rumored to be ‘retiring’  from their 40 year journey in the world of rock and roll! The rumors about AC/DC’s break-up stemmed from an anonymous email to Perth radio station 6PR by a person identifying themselves only as “Thunderstruck”, who said: “I have extremely good contacts in Europe that are very close to AC/DC. I have it on very good authority that one of the band members is quite ill and has returned to Australia with his family. AC/DC members have previously made a pact that no band members will be replaced should someone need to leave the band. No more is currently being said, however the particularly ill member of AC/DC’s son has stated that AC/DC may well be over.” quoted The Guardian. (The member in question is said to be rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young)

Entertainment reporter Peter Ford told 6PR he believed the information to be correct. “It may be that … they don’t actually retire as such, they just never perform together again or record again.”

AC/DC’s singer, Brian Johnson, told a Florida radio station in February that a band member had been ill, which had caused them to be tight-lipped about their plans. “We’ve been denying anything, ’cause we weren’t sure,” he said. “One of our boys was pretty ill, so we didn’t like to say anything, and we’re very private about things like this, so we didn’t wanna say anything.

Earlier this year, frontman Brian Johnson revealed that the rock legends were poised to start work on new music. And there was talk of the band celebrating its 40th anniversary with a special world tour, though nothing was confirmed.

As our nation’s playing its own version of ‘Capture the Flag’ with verbal rockets and plasma guns shot at every tom, dick and harry with a political inclination(that means everyone), what’s wrong to ask for a bit of reprieve from all this rather dull idea of chaos? Say hello to your saviors..

    1. Blood Ceremony

This whole doom/retro rock/insert-whatever-from-the-’70s is just becoming a rather too tepid to my liking. Its not far  before we hit the burnout wall. But then again bands like Blood Ceremony do keep the warm fuzz of old intact. Here’s their brand new single titled Let it All Come Down. This is to be a part of a two song 7″ vinyl released via Rise Above Records.

    2. The Skull

Forget super groups this is 80’s American doom after going all Super Saiyan. I guess that was too much of an exaggeration. Or probably not, because this has Eric Wagner!! on vocals, together with Jeff Olson and Rob Holzner. Now that’s a lot of ‘Trouble’. Also featuring are ex-Pentagram guitarist Matts Goldsborough and Lothar Keller from Sacred Dawn. They’ve released two singles from a yet to be named album which is to be released through Tee Pee Records. Interesting indeed. Oh and yeah stoked as hell!

    3. Foreskin/Maowali Split

The effect of lobbing a potato masher into an unsuspecting German patrol (if you are into WWII FPS ). Short and quick with a common goal.

That’d be the best way to put this under 5 minute ride of top notch frag friendly thrash and hardcore from Foreskin(Pakistan) and Maowali (Nepal).

    4. Saor

Roots from Saor was one of the more truly captivating releases last year. All those blissful Celtic melodies that were carefully sewn into this larger tapestry of atmospheric black metal was something worth getting entranced by. But this latest single titled Children of the Mist, will melt you. Not by heat but by its sheer scale of beauty.

The track comes off their latest album Aura, soon to be released by the brilliant, and probably the go-to place for some of the best new melodic atmospheric BM, Northern Silence Productions.

    5. Rude

This is the last track and its time i give you some conditioning in being the rotten, mud wallowing, nimrod you were before this post started out. This is death metal sounding pretty close to the Martin van Drunen era Pestilence that’s run on grime and not any standard grade fuel.

Their first single Haunted comes off their debut record titled Soul Recall, to be released by FDA Rekotz.

And hellyeah! They have the cover art done by the brilliant Dan Seagrave!

There is no shortage of new music out there, but i plan to make an attempt to sort out most of the good ones for your exclusive listening. Not to sound like a self-righteous douchebag here, it’s just that I’d want to share the excitement i had listening to these particular tracks  with you all.

    1. The Drip

Absolutely menacing and relentless. Two qualities that define grindcore and clearly runs amok in The Drip’s 3rd EP titled A Presentation of Gruesome Poetics. Their first release on a major label (Relapse Records).

    2. Trap Them

Well this turned out to be a bit of a surprise. Trap Them takes a rather thrashier sound here as opposed to their usually entombedcore self. Interesting.. Salt Crypts comes off their 4th full length titled Blissfucker, released via Prosthetic Records.

    3.  Planet of Zeus

Clutch-sounding southern groove from Greece. Its a great jam, one that you’d down some beer with. The track comes off their new album Vigilante released via ihaveadrum Records.

Opeth’s eleventh studio album is confirmed to be called as “Pale Communion” and will be released worldwide on June 17.

Porcupine Tree frontman/guitarist Steven Wilson said ” For the first part of the year I’ve been doing a lot of mixing work for other artists, something I always find very inspiring.

The new Opeth album Pale Communion was mixed into stereo and 5.1 at my studio in February. I also sang harmony vocals. It’s by no stretch of the imagination a metal record but it’s still plenty heavy and a great piece of work – for me the epic orchestrated ballad “Faith in Others” that closes the album is Mikael Åkerfeldt’s finest achievement to date. Pale Communion is released by Roadrunner Records on 17th June. It’s also the first Opeth album to be recorded and mixed in higher resolution 96/24. I hope Roadrunner will release a high res format, but I don’t know their plans on that.

From here on I’m focusing on writing more material for my next album, which I plan to record with my band in the Summer. More news soon…”

In a recent interview with VICE’s NoiseyÅkerfeldt stated, “I wanted to do something more melodic with this album…there’s stronger vocal melodies and more melodies overall…I was pretty consistent with that frame of mind throughout the writing process.”
