Pune metallers Halahkuh have released their track ‘Break The Shackles‘. This is the band’s first release after their much acclaimed debut EP , Desecration. The band had worked with Adhiraj Singh for their debut EP and they returned to the Refractor Studio genius for the new track as well. The band said “We have been working with Adhiraj since the inception of the band, he is the guy who not only understands our sound completely but he knows each and every one of us very well. A brilliant producer, a great friend and I think that’s where lies the chemistry. Pretty psyched for the release of our new track “Break The Shackles” , Adhiraj has done some next level work.

Reuben Bhattacharya has worked with the band on their artwork for the track. The artwork is based on the lyrical theme of the track ,it portrays how we have been oppressed forever just like a genie in a lamp, where one does only what has been told to do just like a genie who can’t even come out on his free will. The artwork is brilliant and yes that’s the quality you expect from the Visual Amnesia man, JAW DROPPING. “Reuben is a magician thats what we like to call him and his magic wand is his pencil. A gem of a person and a sheer genius, the moment we thought of this concept we knew it has to be Reuben. He understood the concept so well that the final product speaks for itself. It’s a privilege to have worked with him for Break The Shackes.” Halahkuh says.

And for all those who have not heard the track yet , Halahkuh sum it up for you all “This song speaks about you, this song speaks about “US”.This song speaks about freedom , our own free will. Its time to cast yourself away from the blindfolded masses, its time to RISE!

  • Bruce Dickinson working on a little different type of metal

Aug 13 • All Updates, International News, News • 3806 Views

As the cheesy title goes, we might wonder what is it exactly, but the truth is as simple as that, Iron maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson is working on to build Airplanes with his aviation company ‘Cardiff Aviation‘ that he founded.

Professionally he’s been pilot for more than 25 years now and he also flew the giant flight 666 with iron maiden on a world tour, Now he plans to build an airline fleet of up to 10 aircraft within a few years and fill a market niche from its 132,000-square-foot hangar in St. Athan, Wales. He also plans to refurbish old unused planes or sublease them and fly them with his own pilots. A man with more than 7000 hours worth of flying time experience certainly knows his stuff well. And we metalheads welcome it of course.

Cardiff Aviation will provide the plane and pilots on ad hoc charters in Europe—”wet leasing” in industry jargon—and then fly the planes south for the winter to Asia to offer the same service to customers there

  • Fallujah – The Flesh Prevails

Aug 9 • Reviews, The Slumbering Ent • 3831 Views

Dipankar Mohanty after his take on their previous record on our Shooting Oblivion series, decides to give Fallujah’s latest a spin. The Flesh Prevails is released via Unique Leader Records.

A2000This magnificent artwork is a joint effort between Polish artist Tomasz Alen Kopera and the band’s vocalist, Alex Hofmann

So we come to the sophomore release of this progressive/technical death metal band. The band experimented with long runs of spacey melodies and solos in their first album. While the balance between brutality and the progressive melodies were slightly off in their first release, The Harvest Wombs, it still provided a great outburst of positive energy. The band gets the combination better on The Flesh Prevails.

Abrupt phases of technical brutality are toned down and there is a definite cohesion between the contrasting parts as they lead on and intertwine fluidly. Starlit Path is a good example. On the other hand what the band has done is to trim down the elongated melodic parts and solos and give a little more time to the aggressive parts. Two, there are more segue like atmospheric parts akin to what a electro-pop band like Enigma did a decade ago present in songs like Flesh Prevails, Levitation and Alone with You. Now the effects of these are slightly inconsistent, but still a matter of subjective interpretation as to how they fit into the overall messaging. The presence of clean male and female vocals might heighten predicaments, but they are few in number. Also present are longer instrumental passages that ride on the combination of tech riffing/solos and melodies. These get the maximum focus and time. Another interesting melodic trait of the solos is that there seem to be some influences of later era Steve Vai where he experimented with progressive melodies. Fallujah’s overall messaging on this release is spot on as well. This has a variety of influences and emanates the same spacey atmosphere in terms of pure emotional response this has the same vibe that a Borknagar or many of the nature oriented atmospheric black metal bands emanate. The only difference here is that the surrounding is replaced by space and the universe. Listeners can choose to scrutinize on the technical elements or can journey through its aether. I think the band might have found its template here and can begin to modify parts to suit their preferences. Again subjective quirks aside, this again is another good release which is technical and emotive at the same time.

RATING : 3.75/5 (This hardy band is on the path to greatness. But only on the path. )

  • Shooting Oblivion: Part II (Fallujah)

Fallujah’s meteoric rise to popularity has definitely been the talk of the town. Unfortunately it belies the crucial shifts in sound with each album,  something which has been easily forgotten. In the midst of all the talk that their last EP  Nomadic and their latest outing The Flesh Prevails had made, their first full length The Harvest Wombs is often, a gem in its own right, overlooked. Dipankar Mohanty kicks back the Shooting Oblivion series in motion by letting out his thoughts on the album.

These guys have something going on. One part of me says that they are trying too many things at once while another side reminds me of their melodic side which is damn good. Well, Fallujah are quite the band to hate. Their brand of ‘progressive atmospheric brutal death metal/deathcore’ is quite a combination which should not make any sense but the band’s music is not that complicated. Fallujah’s music emanates a spacey feel thanks to the melodic leads and solos which are the highlight of the album. The common denominator that runs through most of the songs is the layer of that spacey atmospheric harmonies above which the brutal parts make their play or manifest as a standalone entity. Similarities can be drawn to The Faceless who also seems to follow a similar pattern of songwriting, but Fallujah differentiate themselves by injecting more melodies. Those melodies derive a lot of influences from later-Neuraxis (which also plays a part in their brutal influences), Cynic and Quo vadis as well.

Good things first, the proggy melodies and solos receive the highest air time. If you’re going to listen to The Harvest Wombs then this is what will hit you most and would be the key takeaway. The bad, which is not exactly horrendous, are the aggressive and brutal parts. When meshed with the melodic layer they sound satisfactory but as standalone parts their limitations are exposed. These limitations are genre driven which prides itself in technical riffing and drumming but ends up without a soul. They seem to be like fillers which eventually are awaiting their chance to give away to the melodic parts. Also, their deathcore influences are pretty much evident here. In some of the songs like Cerebral Hybridization, Harvest Wombs and Assemblage of Wolves; Fallujah get it right. It feels like whenever the band is not tinkering with finding the right combination between complex brutal riffing and melody they get it spot on. But whenever the brutal riffs make their play Fallujah fall prey to their own creation. I’m really being strict here in my judgment, because on the surface the album in my opinion is pretty good. Some of the aggressive parts are also well done. Harvest Wombs seems divided between melodies and brutality the two distinct sides to the album. I would give full marks to Fallujah for generating the atmosphere that they were aiming for. Overall it’s a good journey.
