We have a new writer joining our ranks. Anoop Bhat reviews the new full length from Ringworm titled Hammer of the Witch, released via Relapse Records.

a3378241543_10Absolutely killer artwork by frontman James Bulloch, nicknamed ‘The White Witch’.

Ringworm’s debut on Relapse Records does all the right things. 40+ minutes of balls-out, unforgiving, in your face metallic hardcore without any semblance of pretension whatsoever.

The instruments come together really well – a brilliant mix by Ben Schigel (Spider Studios) that provides the definition the songwriting deserves. The album opens rather menacingly with ‘Dawn of Decay’, a song that starts off with an interesting, almost Helmet-esque, intro piece only to segue into some Promise-era thrashing, the kind this Cleveland group is lauded for. From there on it is absolute surrender – one song after another, the aural-assault takes over. Be it the ferocity of ‘Bleed’, ‘Exit Life’ or the ominous heaviness of ‘Leave Your Skin at the Door’, ‘One of Us Is Going to Die’, these songs perfectly exemplify James “Human Furnace” Bulloch’s take (‘too metal for hardcore, too hardcore for metal’) on the band’s sound.

There is a certain freshness to the music that keeps the album from being just another hardcore routine. Matt Sorg is just excellent on this one, belting out some really tasteful solos, John Comprix too and HF..boy is he pissed off. Early years or now, the man sings (re: screams) with absolute conviction. That aside, he is also responsible for the gorgeous artwork that adorns this LP.

Hardcore/ metal music in recent years seldom has had the recall value it once did but this album here has enough hooks to stand out as an exception.

RATING : 4/5 (This mighty tome will resurrect the dead, but it may not turn lead to gold)

  • Indus Creed release their new track ‘Thief’

Sep 24 • Indian News, News, Releases • 3548 Views

When we had spoken to Uday Bengal (Vocalist, Indus Creed) back in August he had promised that ‘Thief‘ would be a heavy and slammer of a track and boy isn’t it just that. Indus Creed have released the music video of their new track ‘Thief’. The songs groovier than their older material certainly more heavier with a lot of chuggy riffs. If this is just a feeler as to what direction the bands going in , I cannot wait to hear more of Indus Creed.

The legendary rock veterans had decided to reunite after more than 10 years to release their album Evolve in 2012. With the band off to play at Ziro Festival of Music , audiences there are sure to get a taste of the new Indus Creed sound.

Swedish Metal giants Meshuggah have started writing new material for the upcoming album . In an recent interview Tomas Haake did with Metalbase India he confirmed that the band are trying to release the album by late 2015 or early 2016. Tomas said ‘We are writing right now , as usual its a slow process and its gonna take some time. We are probably looking at the earliest late 2015 or early 2016. So its going to take a while and that’s not only a matter of our writing and recording process being lengthy , but nowadays we have to really listen to what our label has to say and we want our album to be a priority release.

Meshuggah new full length album would be the bands eighth full length album. This album would follow the highly acclaimed 2012 release Koloss. The band had been extensively touring to promote their new album , but now are taking some time off from the live space and are busy writing their next album.

Tomas also told us that the new songs are complex and rhythmically tough. The fans have to be patient , but trust me the wait will be worth it.

Pink Floyd  have confirmed that the new album ‘The Endless River‘ will be released in November this year. The band issued the following statement on their Facebook page :

In the month of July there was a lot of speculation surrounding Pink Floyd’s new album ‘The Endless River’. We at Metalbase India had also covered about the same (Find the article by clicking here).

David Gilmour and Nick mason have also revealed that the title – a tribute to late keyboardist Rick Wright – will be released on November 10 as an 18-track, four-sided double-album, with the intent of promoting the classic format.

Gilmour has confirmed Floyd’s first record in 21 years has its roots in sessions for 1993 release The Division Bell. He says: “We listened to over 20 hours of the three of us playing together. Over the last year we’ve added new parts, re-recorded others and generally harnessed studio technology to make a 21st century Pink Floyd album.

“With Rick gone – and with him, the chance of ever doing it again – it feels right that these revisited and reworked tracks should be made available as part of our repertoire.”

Mason adds: “This record is a good way of recognising a lot of what Rick does and how his playing was at the heart of the Pink Floyd sound. Listening back to the sessions, it really brought home to me what a special player he was.”

“The Endless River” is mainly instrumental, with one song, Louder Than Words, featuring lyrics by Gilmour’s wife Polly Samson.

The cover concept was created by 18-year-old Egyptian digital artist Ahmed Emad Eldin, discovered by Hipgnosis partner Po Powell following the death of Storm Thorgerson last year. Powell says: “When we saw Ahmed’s image it had an instant Floydian resonance. It’s enigmatic and open to interpretation.” It’s on display in an eight-metre installation on London’s South Bank.

It will be available in a number of formats: double vinyl in gatefold sleeve with 16-page booklet; deluxe CD/DVD with hardcover booklet, collector’s cards and 39 minutes of additional material; CD/Blu-ray with additional digital mixes; standard CD and download. It’s available for pre-order in physical and digital versions now.
