Rolling Stone Metal Awards 2014

We got a chance to speak to Munz (Vocalist , The Down Troddence) at the award ceremony and talk to him about The Down Troddence and the massive EIGHT awards picked up by the band on their debut release.

“This is our first show in Bombay and to play at a show like this for our first show here is a huge honour. When we walked into Blue frog, the first thing Ashwin (organiser) told us was that he wanted a CD of our album but not for himself. It was for Chris Adler. He had really liked our music and had especially asked for a CD. For us, that in itself was like an award. We have been listening to bands like Lamb of God and Testament (Alex Skolnick) while growing up and just the fact that those guys were commenting on something we have done is amazing. We were in fact even covering Lamb of God back in 2009. When we came here, we were hoping to get at least one award. That was for best artwork because our artist has worked really hard on it and it is amazing. But to come here and win 8 awards has been overwhelming. winning best band, best song, best album adjudged by those guys, to get these many was brilliant for a band like us. I mean, this being our debut album, the amount of support we have gotten for it from all quarters of the metal scene has been great. As a band we have been through a lot. From having no drummer to all the members of  the band being in 6 different cities. We are from a small town in Kerala where no one listens to metal. We had done the south circuit for a lot of years but there was a limit to what we could achieve. There was a time when the farthest we could go was Hyderabad. From then to today playing in Bombay, we’ve come a long way. The support from the crowd here in Bombay has been amazing. I thanked them repeatedly on  stage and will thank them again for their support. We didnt think we would win 8 awards. The other bands, it is unfair to call them ‘competitors’, are all  legends in their own right, and every one of them who is here has come up to me and congratulated me. there is no feeling of competition in this scene.  It is like a brotherhood of support. For TDT now, this feels like a huge milestone. But who knows, this could just be the beginning.”
