Cropsy Maniac – Shear Terror EP
Dipankar Mohanty reviews the debut EP from Cropsy Maniac titled Shear Terror, released via Deadbeat Media.

Boredom is a bitch. Ain’t it? Especially when listening to serious metal all the time. So why not inject a little something which lies at the opposite end of said seriousness? Cropsy Maniac, featuring Kevin Reece of Blood Freak is just the antidote for your miserable lives. Don’t be morose all the time and no need to put on your bullet belt; a pair of slippers and underwear will do just fine although I’ll not hold you back if you want to go for the Spasm look. Cropsy Maniac can be served as bed tea, an evening snack or as an aperitif. Its debut EP ‘Shear Terror’ clocks in at 9 minutes and delivers pummeling and nasty (tasty!) grindcore at neck breaking intensity. Understandably, the Blood Freak influence is pretty prominent here and it also features a downtuned production which is great for this sort of release because it has influences from 80s-early 90s death metal. This is some great grindcore, with tons of blast beat goodness and crazy riffing. Quick and dirty is what this EP is, although I would like to substitute “dirty” with “refreshing”! It also features a cover of a Haemorrhage’s ‘Dawn in the Rotting Paradise’. This is highly recommended for fans of Nasum, Terrorizer, Brutal Truth and Squash Bowels etc. As this should take care of your depression problems, the next thing you can do is buy the CD. Consider it as fees for your treatment and yeah, you can run over a few people when driving.
Rating 4/5
(This mighty tome will resurrect the dead, but it may not turn lead to gold)
