  • Abraxas are back all guns blazing

Dec 16 • Events, Indian News, News • 3399 Views

Back in 2009 Abraxas were the reason for few of the sickest moshpits but the band had to halt the Abraxas juggernaut for a few years. That said Abraxas are back , with two new members but the same old sonic assault.

An indefinite hiatus is a very difficult time for any band that experiences it and this unfortunate tenure was bestowed upon Abraxas because of a couple reasons“, says Karan Pote, frontman of Abraxas talking about the past few years where the Pune band had been missing in action from the local metal scene.

As is the case with many metal bands, personal commitments and careers of the individual band members often take a toll on the band. Axe-man Vinay Joseph moved to USA due to family commitments. Secondly, Naman Sachdev decided to pursue his further studies abroad and that’s when it seemed like a hiatus was inevitable. “After those two departed, it wasn’t very difficult for the rest of the core members to concentrate on what was on hand; Abhimanyu was pursuing his masters and I was focusing on a day job in Bombay. And with each passing day, ultimately, the hiatus was in effect thereby bringing all Abraxas activities to a standstill“, explains Karan.

With the band all ready , Abraxas’ plan is plain and simple: make up for lost time. With the addition of two new members, Abraxas aims at getting back in the circuit with even more zeal and zest that v.1 had. Moreover the album is back on and things are progressing just the way we anticipated it in the past.

The band also has plans to kick-start this come back with a new single. Titled ‘Deviation,’ it’s a song written back in 2009. Talking about why this track was picked as the first song they would record after their resurrection, the band elaborated “We personally had the sickest moshpits to this track and thought of releasing it as a token of appreciation to all the fans and friends that have supported us through our toughest and glory years“.

  • UNOHU the alt-rock power trio

Dec 13 • Indian News, Interviews, News • 4896 Views

Mumbai’s Unohu is an alt-rock power trio that has been garnering quite a bit of attention from the indie scene, especially after their gig at Ctrl + Alt + Del Edition 3, which they consider their lucky break. The band has already been featured on Vh1 Diaries and has been gigging since 2012. Considering the fact that they are still in college, they create their brand of alt rock with quite the gusto; with some really catchy and infectious grooves that refuse to leave your head space!
    unohu_live
Armed with a fantastic 4 song EP (‘Asunder’) under their belts, the band is busy working on newer singles for their future shows. UNOHU came about when brothers Sarthak and Shaswat jammed with Yohann and started creating their brand of music, primarily influenced by Porcupine Tree, Incubus, Karnivool, Two Door Cinema Club, Mutemath, Dead Letter Circus and Foals. The band has also released a music video for their song ‘Parachute’

    Watch it here:

Lyrically, the band claims that they write about things personal to them and which can also be ‘impetuous and mood based’. The lyrics have but only one purpose, of solely self serving.

UNHOU says they have adopted a songwriting process quite subconsciously. They create a central riff/melody/chord progression at the initial stages of writing a song, as it lends a particular feel to the song and thus the song takes shape with ease.

They say college work is possibly their biggest time consumer, but they are actively writing new material and planning to print out new merchandise for their followers and rock ‘em all!

Now you know who UNOHOU are !

  • December Demolition

The Return of Reptilian Death and An Iron Salute to Maiden

Dec 12 • Events, Indian News, News • 2127 Views

One of the main reason’s Pune’s metal scene continues to grow is because of event organizers such as Frameshift and The Stormbringer, who might feel like they’re pushing a boulder up a hill, but they’re now seeing strength in numbers back them.

    December Demolition

    December Demolition

That’s probably what’s led to Frameshift announcing not just one, two different metal gigs coming up in December and January. They’re bringing down Japan’s underground metal act Defiled for one of their best festival series yet, Entombed Metal Fest, in January. But before they kick things off in new year, they’re coming back with an old favorite – the second edition of the (now) two-day December Demolition.

Just as last year’s edition slammed it with a great mix of new and old school bands, including an impressive debut by Mumbai’s “stone age metal” band Primitiv, this time’s big draw is two-fold. First, there’s the return of Mumbai death metal band Reptilian Death and then there’s the first day of Ed-head madness, with an Iron Maiden tribute show, comprising everyone from vocalist Biproshee Das from Albatross to upcoming thrash/groove juggernauts Halahkuh. If you were at Catatonia Fest in Thane for Albatross‘s set, then you know exactly what a great Maiden song can do for a gig. Primitiv and the likes of Dark Helm and Ragnhild find themselves returning to the December Demolition bill on day two as well, with two new names on the lineup – Wired Anxiety and Reptilian Death.

That brings us to Reptilian Death – who last played live at Control Alt Delete’s Metal Chapter in June. When vocalist Vinay Venkatesh said at the gig that it would be their last for a while, any scene regular would have pegged the break to last at least a year, while the other members concentrated on their own projects. There’s been a lot of activity from Demonic Resurrection, Gutslit and Albatross, and even an potentially-impressive new prog project called The Minerva Conduct. But just like RD drummer Sahil Makhija revived the band in total secrecy at Domination the Deathfest in 2013, this show too seems keep up the element of surprise. There’s been no word on new members or what the new avatar of the band will look or sound like, which makes it an even bigger draw for anyone attending December Demolition. If you’re a fan of the band, and want to know what they’re planning next, be there to witness their first step in a new direction. Knowing their last revival, this one will be no less brutal.
