Death Metal veterans Third Sovereign have been busy in Aizawl working on their next full length release. This would follow the releases Destined To Suffer (,2007) and Deprived Serenity (2008). The crowd witnessed the massive sound Third Sovereign are working on , at Outrage Festival and this year’s Rolling stone metal awards . Excited would be an understatement for the apprehension listeners have for the new Sovereign album. We sat down with vocalist Vedant and discussed the sound on the new album and all things Third Sovereign

Third Sovereign

Metalbase India: Third Sovereign has been on a hiatus since long now, and now you guys are back together. When did you guys decide to start again from scratch and build up the idea for a new record?
Vedant: Well…most of the new tunes had been written and composed in the period between 2008-2009 which means that the ideas and concepts had already started to take shape during that period itself. When I joined back in 2012,there were couple of new songs which were given to me as templates to work on. So, basically the whole concept for the new record was already there on our hands and we were just waiting for that perfect timeframe to start our tracking which eventually happened last year in July when the band entered its newly constructed studio (Vortex Live ‘N’ Loud) in Aizawl to start work on pre-production.

MBI: One of the most monumental moments for the band must be opening for Dying Fetus in Shillong Open Air. Tell us about the experience.
Vedant: It was great! The best part was talking to John (Gallagher) and Sean (Beasley) and getting to know them. Such nice and humble people which gives you an idea of how they have managed to continue after all these years.

MBI: TS recently played at the Rolling Stones Metal Awards after almost 6 years. Did it lead to any nostalgia?
Vedant: It was actually great to meet old friends, hang around and have fun. Mumbai crowd is always great to play to and got to watch The Down Troddence whose musical presentation on stage was a sight to behold. These guys are really good at what they do and will go a long way!!

MBI: How was playing with the other veterans like Nigambodh, Fragarak, Aberrant, Colossal Figures, Eschers Knot, Zygnema and Undying Inc in the Outrage Festival?
Vedant: I don’t have words to describe Outrage. Probably the best gig we have played so far this year. Everything about the festival was excellent starting from the sound which was MASSIVE, the turnout which was easily one of the best attendance I have witnessed in recent times and so encouraging to see all the bands who performed brilliantly and played there hearts out!!

MBI: After Destined To Suffer, Sovereign’s new album will presumably be released this year. Our fans are dying for some information.
Vedant: The songs are more challenging, a lot of it faster than the older materials, and the sound is more raw, mean and brutal. We really thank all our fans for bearing with us and keeping there patience for this one!

MBI: Since a release will be made after a long time, do we expect something totally new from TS?
Vedant: I will just say that it will be Pure, Unadulterated and Honest “in your face” Death Metal that will kick your balls!!

MBI: Any record deals on the cards?
Vedant: Not at the moment! Time will tell……

MBI: What are the lyrical and musical inspirations of the band, and have they been incorporated in the new album?
Vedant: My lyrics revolve around a plethora of visions that I have which I use accordingly. Most of the musical projection comes from Benja and Reuben worked upon at these rehearsals between them. We listen to different musical styles, but then having said that the core of the IIIrd Sovereign sound is pretty much intact with it’s own brand.

MBI: What are the plans of the band apart from the new release, till the end of 2014?
Vedant: To play and promote the new record as much as possible and to explore unchartered territories.

MBI: Any message for the fans?
Vedant: You guys are our inner-strength and thanks for being with us through our thick and thin! Keep it real…Until’ Mortality!! Cheers!!

Hello, just thought I’d point out the publication is Rolling Stone. Not Rolling Stones, like the band. 🙂
